Colina Noua is an ambitious new ecovillage located a 20 minute drive north of Cluj, Romania. It endeavors to re-think the standard of living for Romanians. Since the fall of Communism some 30 years ago, Romania has seen disinvestment in education, infrastructure, and the public sphere. For the first time in history, Romanians are returning to their native land, and the city of Cluj is seeing an uptick in population, as it has rebranded itself as the tech capital of Eastern Europe.
With an ever increasing sensitivity toward climate change and in response to public disinvestment, Colina Noua is establishing itself around the principles of an ecovillage that is inclusive, diverse, and sensibly developed. Higher density development will lend to greater land conservation. Land that can be utilized for agriculture, recreation, and ecological conservation.
Colina Noua will serve as a beacon for a new way of living in Romania.
