The Leonard Athletic Center is a two phase athletic facility for Cincinnati Country Day Schools. The first phase updates and overhauls three distinct existing buildings. The largest element is the pool renovation. Scripted acoustic analyses determined the interior sound dampening suspended cloud, which peels from the wall and undulates repetitively over the space in order to emphasize the notion of motion in the marine environment.
The second phase is programmed as an entry lobby that acts two-fold. The first intention is to suture together the existing buildings. Its second objective is to define the face of the campus' athletic department. The roof and glass wall fold as separate planes working together. These elements tie into the existing identity of the campus, but are extenuated to promote the notion of activity.
